What is a cake smash session?
A cake smash session celebrates your baby’s first birthday in a fun, playful way. It captures this exciting stage — turning one, exploring textures, tasting cake, and showing off their personality. It is a sweet way to document your baby’s first year of life.

When should I schedule a cake smash session?
Cake smash sessions should be scheduled at least 2 weeks before your child’s first birthday. This gives us time to plan the theme, colors, cake details, and any special setup ideas. It also allows enough time for editing if you want images ready before the birthday celebration.

What should my child wear?
Your child can wear anything you love. Many parents choose outfits that match the theme or colors of the session. For girls, tutus, rompers, or onesies work beautifully. For boys, solid shirts, jeans, suspenders, bow ties, or button-down shirts are great options. You are welcome to use your own outfit or ask us for suggestions.

What does the cake smash package include?
Cake smash sessions include the photographer’s time and talent, a 30-minute studio session, an online proofing gallery with 10 fully edited high-resolution digital images, and optional splash photos if your child enjoys the bath setup. The package also includes a custom boutique smash cake, balloons, decorations, and a customized backdrop. Once you book, we will coordinate the theme, colors, and props so everything is ready for your session.

What if my child does not eat the cake?
That is completely normal. Some babies love the cake right away, while others are unsure at first. We recommend letting your child try a small cupcake or cake a few days before the session so they are familiar with the texture. Cheerios, puffs, or small snacks can also be hidden in the cake to help encourage them.

Will it get messy?
Yes — and that is part of the fun. You may need to show your child that the cake is okay to touch and eat, so be prepared to get a little frosting on yourself too. We recommend bringing a change of clothes for your baby and avoiding outfits you do not want frosting on.

How do we clean up?
We take care of the outfit, decorations, setup, and cleanup. You do not need to bring towels or wipes unless you prefer your own. Our goal is to make the session fun, simple, and stress-free.

How long does it take to receive my images?
After your session, we carefully review and edit each image to create a personalized viewing and ordering experience. Initial image proofs are typically ready within 3–5 business days. Final edits are completed after image selections are made, usually within 5–7 business days. We do not post sneak peeks online until your final images are ready, but we would love for you to follow along on social media.
